Hello. I'm looking for some input and constructive criticism on a campaign I'm making from scratch.
Introduction
In the world of Nanlijeil, the PCs each have come across a posting in a city or town where they have either passed though or were visiting. This posting catches their eye and they feel inclined to read it.
(NOTE: Each PC’s reward is a wish they want granted.)
They were intrigued and felt that it was fate to have come across the posting and decided to seek out this “false messiah” for the reward.
They all happened to cross paths as they arrived at the fortress. Each of them hacked and slashed and threw their spells until they all arrived just outside of what they believed was the throne room.
Everyone being eager for their reward busted into the throne room, certain that is where the “false messiah” would be hiding. As each of them took their first step into the room, they stopped dead in their tracks.
They all felt this sudden chill creep down their spines. Each feeling as if they've made a grand mistake in barging in. Staring at all of them is a small army of skeletal warriors led by, what they can assume is the “false messiah”.
As they fought the “false messiah” to no avail, he lifts his arms and waves his hands as if to cast some kind of magic. Suddenly a massive rift opens from underneath the PCs and it sucks them through. The next thing they’d know is that they all woke up washed up on a beach. They have no idea where they have ended up, all they can tell is that this is not a place in the world they call home. This is someplace very new and unknown. What is this new world and how do they get back home?
Campaign Summary
The PCs have appeared in an undiscovered plane similar to their home plane in some ways. It seems that within the center of the 4 continents is a massive waterfall that plummets down into a pit that seems to never end. At the bottom of the pit is another level of the plane that is dying, abandoned, and is beyond any help. The land above where the PCs will have ended up is still safe and thriving.
They must return to their home to stop the BBEG from completing whatever it is he is working on. The PCs will have a way back to their home plane. There will be a way to get to the bottom of the pit and from there the PCs need to find a temple ruin to perform a ritual inside of that will open a portal/gate to their home plane.
After the PCs find out what they need to do the ritual to open a portal/gate in a temple down in the lower level plane to make their way home, they have to find a way to safely get to the temple to complete said ritual.
Finally the PCs will confront the BBEG after successfully finding and going through the portal/gate necessary to teleport back home.
Additional Notes
This new plane is devoid of gods. The gods of the PCs home plane have a hard time connecting to the new plane to contact the PCs.
The PCs will be occasionally notified of what is going on in their home plane by a god/goddess that is responsible for the postings.
If the BBEG is teleporting people to get them out of the way, I’ll populate the world with those who have opposed him before and have yet to escape/don't know how/cannot escape because of various circumstances.
