So I am prepping Isle of the Abbey from the book Ghost of Saltmarsh. I use minis and terrain so generally I need to buy a shit-ton/ paint a shit-ton and build a shit-ton to prep.
Now skimming through the book it was referred to me that all monsters are detailed in appendix C, alrighty, I order my missing minis from across the world and then I start reading the actual adventure and lo and behold that I encounter quite a few enemies and monsters that were not included in Appendix C.
Did some google search and I just have to ask somewhere - am I the only one that finds this annoying? Shouldn't appendices that are supposed to contain all monsters i.e. enemies contain ALL monsters/enemies?
When they say "all monsters" what they really mean is "all monsters that can't be easily found in the free basic rules."
EDIT: Specifically, you can assume that all the monsters in any appendices are just the special monsters that are central to the adventure you are running.
So is that standard? Just asking so I know what to expect going forwards with D&D. I mean the moral of the story is of course to read through the entire adventure before placing order of minis :D
It is a bit annoying in my opinion, but I can certainly understand why they wouldn't include monsters that can be found in the basic rulebook. It might be beneficial to do a quick search online for all the monsters used in a module before ordering minis next time, though. Have fun painting them!
I havent looked in that specific book, but pretty much all other D&D adventures have a not in the beginning that you will need Monsters Manual for monster stats.
Its only new monsters for the specific adventure that will be listed in the "Ghost of Saltmarsh", Dungeon of the Mad mage etc.
- Read the books introduction - "Running the Adventures"
Sorry my issue is not that they do not include statblocks for Monsters, for me it's more that I would have wanted a complete list of all monsters in the scenario so I know I have all of the minis. Of course if a monster is stat:ed in the MM they do not need to be stat:ed in a seperate adventure. My point was more that I thought the appendix could function as a "shopping list" for minis needed! :D

Confused.
Anyways, still looking forward to running this :D
Have a great one!

Pretty much, yes.
The upside is that you get to paint a bunch of minis now :)

Running the Adventures
To run each of these adventures, you need the fifth edition Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual. ...
As a DM who wants to run d&d adventures you (or your group) should own these books

ah ok, ya that would have been a nice feature.
