you read the title, I'm running a spelljammer campaign and want to make a horror adventure to run during October. I want it to be set on a "lost world" type planet with dinosaurs and trees the size of buildings. and amber.
my current idea is that a cult has freed an unspeakable horror from its amber prison and the PCs have to imprison it again, but that idea doesn't jive. any help is welcome

That's pretty much the plot of Resident Evil 4, a cult in a small Spanish village releases a parasite from ancient amber and everyone infected starts to mutate. Should be easy enough to read the wiki page and redress it without anyone being any the wiser.
Or you can steal the plot of the original Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle and have a rich explorer funding an expedition to explore the planet in a quest for either scientific knowledge, bragging rights or riches. That ended with the lead characters drawn into a war between two native tribes so you could do something similar, one tribe of evil cultists worshiping an elder god and the smaller tribe they're oppressing
Well... this was different than what I was expecting. I thought someone was going down the Amber rabbit hole with full tarot cards and the Courts and Chaos and the whole Zelazny shebang, but then it took a turn in a Jurrasic field and here we are staring into the tentacled abyss of Lovecraft. I would recommend a quick read of Scalzi's Kaiju Preservation Society and let the idea-storm unfold!
