If you clicked on this thread you know why you're here. Your here to talk about the saga telling, mead drinking, raiders. But where are they, how do they live, what gods do they serve? These questions and more are the reason I have made this thread. With the ghosts of saltmarsh module not too far off. These are the questions that are on my mind.
For the purpose of focus we will be talking about the Forgotten Realms setting. Specifically Faerûn or the Sword Coasts.
Now for the first question. Where are they? The first place that comes to mind for me is the island kingdoms of the Moonshae Isles and the islands of the Northlanders. These places seem to fit the Viking theme rather well. The Moonshae's population is mainly humans. But it has a few dwarves in there too for those Gimli enthusiasts. The Northlanders are good fighters and like to raid. They even have a hero God of sailing. We can talk about that God in more detail later after we cover our target population for the Vikings. (The Uthgardt I will give an honorable mention because they strike me more as a traditional barbarian. Not really in line with the Viking theme we are going for. They are more like the quintessential savage.)
What do the rest of you think? This is an open discussion after all.
Saga telling, liquor drinking raiders who descend on an area, beat up the inhabitants and steal their treasure.
Isn't that the definition of a PC?
Lol yes that is certainly true if we're talking about the root word that Viking comes from. I am using it in the modern context in reference to the Old Norse people. Although if any of the Old Norse was to become an adventurer, I imagine it would be a raider. The history aside, I liked your joke.
Depends on what kind of viking you are looking to play. I'm playing a shield maiden style viking, so went a paladin who worships Helm to do so as his ideology works well for a shield maiden protector.
My intention is to have her exposed as a Valkyrie later game, so I used aasimar as her race.
The moonshae islands I agree work as a great Homeland for them, raising, fishing etc.
