So I was wanting to run a fun one-shot for a couple of my buds, but as I started working I had a thought, What if I ask the council of Infinite Advice to give me some random ideas to make it FUN.
Ok so I am not going to give you a fully-fledged one-shot. I'm going to give you skeleton build of it. Its then your job to fill it.
1. Secret Operatives: Players are a secret service team and learn of an attack being planned. As the players attempt to stop the attack, it becomes obvious there is a traitor among you.
2. Lost at Sea: Players are on a ship when a storm hits. Now they're marooned on an island. Unfortunately for them, the natives don't like intruders. The natives? Insanely smart kobolds.
3. Deeprock Runes: Players are searching for more magic. Soon they find a new ruin and decided to explore. But the tunnel entrance closes behind them leaving them stuck and running out of time as oxygen is slowly running out.
Hope these ideas help!

Can I recommend my blog, dragonencounters.com . I write different ideas for optimizing the different monsters (I'm holding at over 70). I meant it for when you want to have an especially difficult fight inside a campaign, but it should also work good if you want to build a one-shot around one of the ideas. Just add a quest, and maybe an NPC or two.

DM, writer, and blog master of https://dragonencounters.com/ a blog dedicated to providing unusual, worthwhile encounters for each monster, making each one unique.
Also, suggestions for which monsters might be found together (for people tired of dungeons full of one humanoid race, and perhaps a few beasts and undead.)

No context, no themes, only two guidelines:
#1: Please don't go off the rails
#2: Please have fun with it

Yeah one-shots are rarely going to be a onetime thing. Its normally going to be just a small journey :/
