I have a party that has encountered a book that contains the name of a demon lord. Do you think that book would give off a magic aura or anything that would make it detectable by magic means?
Depends if you'd like to make his name taboo or not. The names of entities usually hold no power on paper, unless the writer intended for that to happen. Possibly make it to if they say the name out loud, dark energy or aura floods through the their bodies or the room. Or demons could become attracted to their location. Even though lore and magic is up to the DM at teh end of it all, there still must be meaning behind things happening, or else the players won't follow along.
Totally up to the DM. You could make it so that just having the name on paper conveys magical power and would be detectable, maybe even have some effect. Or you could have it that a name written on paper is just mundane ink and has no magical effect.

Depends on the nature of true names, as well what the author did. Typically the answer would be no, unless a written name has specific magic potency in your setting. Or the person who wrote the book cast glyph of warding or symbol on the book to discourage the curious.
Question now. So within your campaign, you're going to allow your party to control a demon lord? Sounds like a pretty epic time, but now I'm curious of what the heck the BBEG is.
I recently introduced a name of a Demon Lord in one of my campaigns. In my case, it's a common name they are referred to as, one that has propagated out throughout time. I used the name as a clue for the party to (a) learn there is more behind the scenes (b) oh crap what have we gotten in to. I doubt it's a true name, but more a propaganda name -- one that has been referenced for a long time.
As a Demon Lord, it could even be a fake name, to trigger awareness of a group powerful enough to be interesting.

Whenever I include something arcanely secret, such as the true name of a powerful entity, I include allips, basically secret ghosts.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms

I think reading the true name should drive untrained people insane and make them kill themselves.
