I'm putting together the setting for my upcoming campaign and I have two characters I'm trying to find a role for. These characters are twins in vastly different businesses. The first twin (for the purposes of this, we'll call him Fenric) is a prominent rogue in the city's underground thieves guild, while the other (idk, Dundrir) is a sorcerer and a wealthy businessman. The issue I'm having is... I can't decide what business the noble twin operates in. I need something that the players can be frequent in (except a magic shop, I already have that handled), and that the rogue twin can either be secretly supporting (like stealing resources for it) or secretly acting against (sabotage and such).
What if the sorcerer was a little bit rogue and the rogue was a little bit sorcery?
So they are twins and the sorcerer gimmick is magic by birthright so what if one parent was a sorcerer so they both have the gene but they were raised by the other in a world of rogues (especially works for arcane trickster).
well anyway what if instead of it being a magic business they run as a sorcerer they are hiding the fact they are a sorcerer and using their magic on the down low to augment a business. Maybe the sorcerer is the dodgier of the two, the rogue got the honour among thieves part of the rogue, the sorcerer got the do what it takes to get what you want.
Maybe a tinkerer with a clockwork soul, A divine soul pretending to be a cleric running an apothecary, maybe they use there skills to forge documents, or bend wills into paying over the odds for art
What about a money-changer? If you give out different denominations of currency (sp, gp, ep, etc.), you could RP the PCs changing into gp or whatever they want, and as a money changer he would have access to lots of money (and be able to charge a percentage for the currency exchange, e.g., 10%). Kind of the D&D equivalent of a rich investment banker. Maybe the twin could be using the brother's bank to launder money (perhaps without the brother knowing).
My other thought is a jeweler -- you know someone to buy all those 10 and 25 gp gems off of you. Or to sell you that 100 gp diamond or pearl as a spell component. Again, this could lead to money laundering (or gem laundering) by the brother.

I'd love to hear your ideas.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
