Hello! New DM here running SKT. Last night we ran the battle with Drufi and the frost giants. I was prepared to make it a battle to the death for Drufi given what the material said...and my players had back to back successful Command (flee) followed by successful Suggest (Artus isn't here. I suggest you look for him in Nightstone). So Drufi blew her horn, ended the assault, and started heading South.
Now I'm a bit at a loss for what would happen. Obviously Suggest lasts 8 hours, and my players have in mind they might have a return of the giants in 16-ish hours if the spell wears off and she comes back pissed. I know they're plotting things behind the scenes, but I'm trying to figure out where to go next in my prep.
Would Drufi in fact realize what happened after the 8 hours and come back angry? Suggest doesn't seem to have a "the subject knows they've been manipulated" line in it - just that if the time runs out before they complete the suggestion, they don't complete it. So theoretically it could just wear off and Drufi could forget why they were headed in that direction? Wisdom and Intelligence not so hot for the frost giants.
Should the other NPCs start giving their quests? They already know Sirac is related to Artus (but they kinda tried to kill him so he's not too thrilled with my party right now). Markham's would feel the most relevant given there is still a very real giant threat - asking them to patrol?
I have a suspicion they may try to go after Artus. I know this is a red herring kind of quest...just to play it out in my mind...
I can set them off toward Waterdeep assuming they interrogate Sirac more
Random encounters along the way
Then probably meeting Harshnag at some point before continuing on? Does that make sense?
I forget if Drufi also had the item which lets the giants determine the direction to Artus Cimber (except it doesn't quite work, ofc). If so, it may play out as if the giants start heading towards Nightstone and eventually when they take a rest or something Drufi might question her trust in the tiny folks and pulls out that item and confirms that indeed she has been swindled and the tiny folks must pay for their impudence (as the item will point back towards Bryn Shandr, unless it is out of range). So within a day or two Drufi returns and this time she's determined to no talk to the tiny folks before the walls are down and giants are stomping about on the streets.
That said, to the people of Bryn Shandr the PCs seem to have saved the day. Through their quick thinking, the giants are on their way elsewhere, and at least one of those quests leads in the same direction (south) so the party may run into Drufi out in the wild, and since they no longer have the comfort of a fortified town to hide in it may be an excellent time to add Harshnag as an unlikely ally in driving Drufi away for good.
