I'm currently DMing a group using the Out of the Abyss adventure book and have just had my players leave Sloobludpop (hated that place for all the names) after encountering Demogorgon, but as a matter of coincidence one of my players is a Warlock who randomly chose Demogorgon as their patron.
Leading up to and during the encounter with Demogorgon I was having the Warlock silently commanded by Demogorgon to kill everyone and when my players fled at its appearance I've taken away all of the Warlocks powers (I had been giving him bonus damage and unexpected spell effects as the encounter drew near).
What I'm after is some ideas on how to give him back power. I was thinking that one of the other demon lords would make a pact with him, but I need something short term so that he has something to work with.
There are a few ways I would play this depending on the player. You could let him "reforge" and change class levels, like when a Pally falls and becomes an Oathbreaker. You could have a new Patron approach him in his dreams the next night, I am always fond of the phrase "You will be a fine vessel for my power." Finally you coudl flip the script, he keeps his powers as is, taking what he wants from Demigorgon by virtue of the fact that his inital Pact may still be in effect, if Big D went down and fell back to the Abyss he will need warlocks more than ever since it will be a while tell he can get back to the mortal plane.

Another idea: This is the time when the warlock to secure his own power from the Abyss?
The party can get a side quest and learn about some kind of font that the Warlock can bathe himself in to draw power directly. Naturally there would be drawbacks (possibly registering as infernal for spells, etc.), and anyone not a Warlock could do it for a random effect that isn't ever 100% benign.
That could play into a nice character arc, and present entirely new challenges as the character is sourcing power from another plane all on his own.
It's also worth considering that Demogorgon is a Chaotic Evil near-divine embodiment of madness; most importantly, its two heads are constantly in conflict. It's entirely plausible that one head would be secretly maintaining the bond while the other has cut it off, and neither head's motivations are ever particularly clear. The Warlock may not even entirely understand or be aware of how this arrangement is working. Make the process as unsettling as possible. The Warlock (but not the player!) should come to regret this kind of an agreement!

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any ideas?
if its short term, have some kind of artifact appear that temporarily gives the warlock his powers
