Ello all been using roll20 for doing my DnD campaign but decided to look into printing maps out for my new group ill be doing any suggestions on a good printer that can print battle maps and possibly bigger maps such as world map sizes. I know the bigger I want them the more expensive they'll be so I'm just looking for something that's affordable and isn't too complicated, any tips?
Most things you come across are either time consuming or money consuming...
You can try to find an online printing service like FedEx Office, which lets you print large size formats which you can have mailed to you or you can pick up at the local store.
I have printed maps on vinyl via Vistaprint (banners), that worked out very nicely.
For at-home printing, I'm not sure if there are affordable large format printers available. However, you may use a poster printing app, which prepares a printout on regular letter size sheets with cut-lines and glue-tabs. You then have to invest the effort to put it all together, and that can be tricky, but it can be done.
The 'cheapest' version of that is to convert your image into a PDF and use the Adobe Viewer, which can 'Poster' print.
I usually use this place called Geekify Inc to do cloth map printing for my campaign maps. I know you said you were looking for cheaper alternatives but I really like having little mementos from my campaigns. Other than that, I used FedEx or UPS when I was getting started. I hope that helps.
I use Vistaprint.com for printing my poster maps. They usually have some sort of deal running, making them the least expensive place I could find. I've been very happy with map quality (and ease of use).
