Sup folks, names Aggro. I haven't played Dungeons and Dragons before and am curious about the Adventurers League. I am familiar with tabletop rules as I use to be a rather active Pathfinder 1st Edition player and GM. Looking to expand my horizons and was just curious as to what the Adventurers League is, if it can be done online, and how I could potentially participate.
Hey, and welcome to an exciting world! It is quite different from what I hear Pathfinder Society is, for better or worse. There are physical games at stores and clubs, and there are tons of online communities. A lot of the online communities interact and cooperates, which makes the AL framework really meaningful.
As for the communities, it depends a bit on your time zone. For Europe, there is AL Nordic and Triden who are two of the more active communities (my main ones). There is the Melbourne group in Australia, Legitimate in Singapore, and The Adventurers Leagues, Unite the Factions, Fire and Dice and others in the US. And many more. All of these have their own discord servers, and as soon as you are in the server network you'll easily get invites to more servers.
A good source for finding games and communities is also Warhorn.net, which some of the communities use to schedule games and handle signups. Other use discord bots directly on their server.
Welcome and good luck!

I recommend taking a look at the article here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1676-what-is-adventurers-league
And the resources here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/d-d-adventurers-league/192532-d-d-adventurers-league-resources-links
Mainly you need to read the Adventurers League Players guide for what you need to adher to to join a game. Mind you, that post is not quite updated, the last version of all documents are available on the official D&D discord server: https://dndbeyond.link/dnd_discord The admins are working on getting a better workflow for the documentation.
