I know that GoS takes place in the Greyhawk campaign setting, but campaigns like Curse of Strahd take place in the Ravenloft setting but its characters can be brought into Faerun just fine. Me and my group want to play a nautical themed game, but I think Ghosts of Saltmarsh is the only 5e campaign for the Greyhawk setting.
So my question: Can you bring a Greyhawk setting character into Forgotten Realms, or are there more Greyhawk adventures we can run if not?
Ghosts of Saltmarsh is included in the forgotten realms as far as AL is concerned. This is described in the AL content catalog. It can not be played as part of Eberron and since AL doesn't have a Greyhawk setting, it can't be played in AL as part of Greyhawk.
"Location -- General. In the text, Ghosts of Saltmarsh is set on Oerth, in the world of Greyhawk. However, D&D Adventurers League play takes place in the Forgotten Realms (except where explicitly noted in DDAL-approved documentation, like the Embers of the Last War campaign for Eberron). As such, when playing Ghosts of Saltmarsh as part of the DDAL campaign, the fishing village of Saltmarsh is located north of Waterdeep, near the Mere of Dead Men. The exact location is up to you, though we suggest placing it near the northern edge of the Mere of Dead Men." ALCC 9.01
It can also be set near Turmish if you are tying it into the Dreams of the Red Wizard storyline.
"Location -- Dreams of the Red Wizards. The ongoing Dreams of the Red Wizards (“DRW”) storyline uses much of the information from Ghosts of Saltmarsh. DRW is set in and around Turmish, a nation on the southwestern shores of the Sea of Fallen Stars. Just off the coast lie the Pirate Isles. You can certainly base Ghosts of Saltmarsh here if you like, though Turmish isn’t known for having swamps nearby so you’ll have to be ready to create one. We suggest placing the fishing village of Saltmarsh east of Alaghon, near the base of the Aphrunn Mountains." ALCC 9.01

Thank you, I had been wondering what the best way to incorporate Saltmarsh into the Forgotten Realms and this should make a good reference.
