Hey, so I think the non-magical weapons in DnD 5e can get a bit stale (just get the weapon with the biggest dice roll)... so would adding some new mechanics from other games like Pathfinder fix that or would that break the combat system? For example - the flail can get behind shields so if the target has a shield it would get a +2 to attack to negate the shield, or the halberd has a hook with which it can you know hook... so the player could use an action to hook the enemy to knock them prone...
I'm still pretty new to DMing so I'm just making sure this won't break the combat...
there's a mountain of homebrew material on this topic if you google...a serious mountain. I think one of the big reasons you don't see all those options in 5e as they specifically went away from them....it just weighs down the game. +2 for this, -1 for that...you'll end up with every player hving 10 pluses and minus they have to figure out on every dice roll.
i would also caution against just 'hey, this one has +whatever in these scenarios'...without some kind of counter-penalty to keep the balance...but then again, more complicated.
