I'm currently writing an adventure mostly for my own use, but once I've run it and given it a little polish I was thinking of putting it up on DM's guild. Reading the guidelines, I see they only list Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, Eberron, Ravnica, Theros, Arcavios(Strixhaven), and Spelljammer as acceptable settings for legal reasons.
My adventure is set on Earth and takes place mostly aboard the Titanic (not really setting neutral), so I was wondering are you able to set adventures on Earth? It's not like it's copyrighted or subject to legal malarky.
So I thought I would ask, is this a thing people do, or would I need to publish an adventure set on Earth on drivethrurpg?
My guess is you're better putting it on DriveThru once you're sure you adhere to the SRD limitations. It's not so much a copyright thing but that DMsGuild exists to support material in the listed world or be setting agnostic enough to work in any of those worlds.
I imagine the Titanic may well be represented for a number of systems on DriveThru.

is Earth in that list you just wrote down? you can do setting agnostic and say its a ship wherever the DM wants. It is subject to legal malarky - you agree to the terms when you upload the doc....and the setting restrictions are part of the terms.

Yeah I'm writing it as a 5e adventure since that's the system me and my players know, but I do recognize this would probably be great as a Call of Cthulu adventure too.
Unless it's utterly critical that the ship is called the titanic, then a few tweaks should make it setting neutral - it's a huge ship called the Titan, claimed to be unsinkable, and it sails on any sea you like, and then starts to sink (I assume!) after colliding with an iceberg of some description.
Being a self-contained area of adventure, it sounds ideal to be sold through DM's Guild. Naming it the SS Titan and using the iconic titanic life ring as a cover page (but with the ships name) should make it sufficiently obvious at a glance what your adventure is built around!
I would advise publishing on Drive Thru. you could make it setting neutral, but part of the allure of your work is the Titanic. Not only does Dm's Guild not really want other realms published there, but the audience looking on there will be less likely to look at it or for it. Whereas it sounds like your work would fit right in on Drive Thru and be able to reach a wider audience.
Well, 2nd Edition DnD did have the Gothic Earth Gazetteer (which is on DM's Guild) and Ravenloft had the Masque of Red Death which the gazetteer belonged to. I don't think it would be an issue.

We're discussing how a particular set of parameters, a license if you will, to produce 5e content on DMsGuild works. The fact that WotC also puts all TSR reprints on there doesn't really speak to the conversation because WotC as the ultimate title holder doesn't have to follow the same rules it imposes on 3rd party creators.
That said, porting the Titantic over as a Domain of Dread is a pretty cool concept someone should run with. Like a perpetual drowning disaster, or having to relive the sinking over and over again, or a "Bard Hell" where the PCs must liberate the passengers captive to the incessant playing of Celine Dion. Btw, that last joke is actually a factor in why fictional IP don't tend to support creators going "real world." There's lines easily crossed, one might even call them Blurred Lines.
