Ask the player if she thinks her character would have a child. It would a) explain her absence b) give her an outlet if she WANTS to RP as a new mom when she gets back.
Obviously it's player prerogative but it's not the worst idea I've had, I think.
That seems like an awful lot of work for a DM. Assume the DM had crafted a campaign with multiple over-arching storylines and themes running through it. Even at level 1, to put that on hiatus for an indeterminate time (like at least a year, very likely forever) because one char has dropped out is too much to ask. Now the DM is supposed to craft a brand new campaign? Nope.
No one is saying the DM needs to make a new campaign. They can run LMOP or Dragon of Icespire or something. Then go back to the custom game when the new mom is ready to come back.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.

It's not like DND Beyond JUST got a collection of 17 stand alone adventures that center around a fortress library that also run up from level 1.....
re-reading and seeing that they are all level one, I would definitely discuss with the group about postponing this campaign until she can rejoin.
I wouldn't. Sure, if it was a known short period away that makes sense, but it's not. Run it without her, and if the campaign is even still running when she returns, work out how to work her back in at that point.
Talk to the rest of the party about giving her xp when she comes back. If everyone is cool then just give them the same as whoever has the lowest amounts.

Another thought depending on the group:

Also... I am not saying that using a published adventure takes no prep. I am just saying that you don't have to throw out all the previous work.
