Soooooooooo, I took out my Lost mine of Phandelver and we played, for 4 hours... He got cared away :D.
So he did as followed. Dueled the Redband leader, and won, freed Sildar, but left Klarg alive (comes back later >:D) blamed the mayor of being a Redband and kicked him out, became mayor, and now is in a WAR. Klarg came back, he got more goblins from Cragmaw castle and now is marching with 100 some goblins to destroy him.
So your brother put himself in quite the predicament, really my response depends on what you need advice on. Also when you run the war probably don't roll individually for every creature that would probably bore your brother.
Agreed, He has been talking about conquering places, so how would you run a war with 1000+ people in it.
When he is going to conquer someplace, there would always be some twist, such as cultists rule that village, and there is a doppleganger who is the mayor at that one.
1). Klarg works for the Black Spider; he might decide that a massive goblin uprising would be likely to draw attention from Neverwinter and tell Klarg to delay.
2) Evacuate the townsfolk into the Redbrand hideout under Tressendar and let the goblins burn Phandelver to the ground.
3) Ask Venomfang for help.
That's about it. I didn't think there were 100 goblins in Cragmaw Castle, but if there are, that's enough to overrun Phandelver easily.
If you had more than a day-and-a-half to plan, you might try to get a message to Neverwinter who might send cavalry to help.
Yeah so I told my brother, (BTW Phandelver is in my own world, I totally 100% stole it :) that the Goblins are 7 days of marching away, so he has time to get a militia together, he has 30 semi-soldiers, 10 semi-mages, 10 semi-archers. There is a town that is 6 days away that is sending 50 soldiers, and the queen of the kingdom I think is going to hear about it and send mages to help, my brother has not discovered where Venomfang is, the Redbrands are also still there (Backstabbing 100% gonna happen)
I'm fudging the time to give my brother some time, saying maybe Klarg has to wait, but I think the Black spider wants my brothers character gone.
Okay, well this is a whole different story. Goblins are okay skirmishers, but bad assault troops. 80 soldiers, 10 archers, and 10+ spellcasters is probably a nut too big for 100 goblins to crack. They might just do a quick ride-through of town on the wargs, set a few fires and call it even.
Sounds like you've allowed your brother somewhat outsized influence for a level 1 character - he'll be ruling Faerûn by the end of LMOP! But who am I to question how you have fun - enjoy your war!
So I finally got my brother to play d&d! :D

Now as DM, I need to run a war.
Yay.
Soooo any advice?
Thanks y'all
Klarg, gosh.

Hey thanks, yeah he is level 2, but he is a Divination wizard, and he rolled well, he's a player where he will do whatever he wants to.
This will be an interesting ride :)
