Problem is, no coast for the setting. It takes place on the inland, and am probably gonna have some thick winters since I like working with cold environments. There’s gonna be a desert too, so that’s gonna be fun since there are some locations where they’re just icy sand areas
If this is primarily inland then have some large body of water, whether it be fresh water or an inland sea. Is the desert an entirely barren place, or dotted with oasis, maybe that is where a large body of water is right in the center of the desert. Could be where one of the monstrous strongholds was, an area nobody wanted to settle so the monstrous creatures slowly filtered there over time. Maybe a pseudo Australia where convicts and outcasts were sent there and made their own society. If you like snowy locales they will typically have some lakes down hill left behind by glacial actions for realism. Ten Towns area in DnD comes to mind, or Minnesota with many small ones dotting the landscape. This could be interesting as a place where certain fey thrive that live attached to bodies of water.
I would think that the humans would take the choicest locations for trade and resources. Rivers, lakes, mineral deposits, mountain passes, fertile farmlands, are all things that they would want to have control of. Examples would be the banks of the Nile, the Fertile Crescent, Mississippi flood plains. Probably making sure none of the 'evil' creatures have anything but the shittiest lands to settle in example would be native american reservations, probably something similar with aboriginals. Though my expertise in that only goes as far as Quigley Down Under.

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
Oh yeah, territory is gonna go that way. Especially since Humans had won already, so they’re gonna have first pick of land. I’m also gonna make heavy use of the Underdark for evil creatures to seek refuge
Although I'm not sure how spacious to make. Cartography is pretty difficult, and I need space to include two kingdoms and a few areas outside of their influences.
Still working on this? Been busy and have not been on beyond much lately.

Still am, just focusing on racial interactions still. Want to use a lot of species, plus school as been hectic since I'm on a quarter system.
