My paladin's backstory has her discovering corruption in the church or her dwarven clan and being subsequently kicked out because of wanting to confront the corrupt leaders. The leaders subsequently had a smear campaign to cover their asses and explain why an esteemed member of the church was suddenly kicked out of the clan.
The party is about to go back to her clan because there is some secret information about one of her ancestors that they need for their overall quest.
Any good ideas for the details of what was told about her to the rest of the clan?
Easy. They claim that you ran around wielding a hammer proclaiming yourself Moradin's son/daughter, Thoradin, god of lightning, and the church denounced you as a heretic.
Is it possible that the church flipped the story on your paladin, casting her as the corruption and thus booting her from their ranks? After all, only the guilty feel the need to clear their name and only the corrupt would attempt to cast doubt on the clergy in an attempt to throw attention off of themselves. We didn't *want* to excommunicate her, we had a solemn duty to protect the church.....
