So my party has gotten themselves into quite the predicament. One member has fallen and they are spent from the encounter. The alarm has been raised and enemies are closing in.
Obviously I'll let them play how they will, but likely they're decision, and best option, will be to run. At which point I'm doing a chase scene as laid down by the rules in the DMG. I just need some obstacles to throw in their path. Various enemies will already be in front and behind them.
Edit: my party are level 5. There are currently five of them. They are in a yuan-ti lair. Tomb of Annihilation for those familiar. Just need some shit for them to dodge.
A a door or passage has been collapsed or locked to prevent escape
Snakes sliver across the floor into holes
Poisonous vapors have been left in the way
maybe some caltrops or ball bearings have been place, possibly poisoned
a corridor filled with incense causes the party to hallucinate, allowing the night serpent to strike. The party gets effected by a night speakers invoke nightmare
Some of ras nsi's undead try to grapple the party.
Fen thaza's air elemental attacks
ras nsi gets a final spell in like hold person or blindness/ deafness
