Just think back to your childhood and all those things adults said you shouldn't play with cuz they were dangerous.
My dad taught me to shoot a rifle when I was four years old. By the time I was ten I was helping my uncle set off fireworks to entertain everybody at the family Fourth of July cookout, which was only supervised to the extent of "Here's a lighter and make sure none of these things are pointed at people, especially me, when you use it." In high school I took an advance placement chemistry class and for labs the teacher would just unlock the chemical cabinet and tell us to make sure we didn't hurt ourselves or burn down the school while he graded papers.
This reminds me that commercially available fireworks can be weaponized on a small scale without much work. With an appropriate skill check (maybe Sleight of Hand using the character's Int mod instead of Dex) they can be reworked into straight up grenades.
One thing I encounter semi regularly is a padlock on the end of a bike chain- flail. Shit's deadly as hell. Baseball bat with spikes is a popular example. Knuckledusters. Maybe tasers, if that's what you want. Some sort of hacksaw would be a terrifying slashing weapon. Even the classic keys between fingers, or the more deadly nails in weight between fingers, would be quite dangerous. Pitchforks are common in more rural area, perfect tridents. I used to live in a not especially safe area, I know pretty much most all of the tricks. The best approach I have found: imrpovised weapons are things you just pick up(ie- plate, table leg, random stick), but most things you have made, even if it would be improvised by most standards (ie- sock bludgeon, wrench umbrella, spiked knuckles), should still count as a proper weapon.
