Hi all, I am in need of a Spell or Ability for my Big Bad. He is a wizard who is doing everything he can to increase his magical power. He wants to be the most powerful being in the universe and to do this he is hunting down and draining the magical force from other arcana mages and stealing any wizard spells he can find. My problem is I don't know of a spell or ability that could achieve this if my players decide to try to research it.
You want to give your Big Bad the "Suppress Magic" power of the Conclave Dryad and, if you want a "spell" of sorts for your players to research, make a custom ritual or something that grants a feature similar to Vampiric Touch, but does like 3d4 psychic damage and drains a spell slot equal to half (rounded down) of the damage dealt, swapping the con save for a int save. Maybe have it do extra damage if the target doesn't have a spell slot to steal.
I happen to have a list of official monster abilities that deal with countering magic. The archaic has an ability called "unravel magic" that may be appropriate. The gauth has an ability called "devour magic ray" that targets magic items. The mage hunter has a reaction called "consume and destroy" that resists magic and redirects half of its power to the caster.
In late 3e, there was an epic level monster called an infernal that had a bite attack that drained spell slots from a caster. It also had a special resistance to magic whereby it became immune to a spell cast by a given caster after being affected by it once.

It's called a Plot Device.

This is all great. Thank you everyone
