The text in question mentions that: "...and the wall behind the table slides upward, revealing a long tunnel that eventually leads down to area R12." This later description might be placed here to assist in linking the two abstracted areas of the map, but this is simply conjecture on my part.
Earlier in the same description it's pointed out that the skull and table do indeed open an entrance to R9 directly. Not seeing a typo, but I can see where there might be some misunderstanding.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” - Mark Twain - Innocents Abroad
I was (am) so confused. And surprised that I can't find this discussed anywhere else. During the session I read this as a tunnel down to r12. Warlock sent her familar to investigate happily didn'tget very far and the party hasn't gone that way yet. I think I'm going to have to retcon this as a simple secret door to r9 (which does not resemble a tunnel, so I think OP was right in calling this a typo).

On betrayer rise, area R3: VEstibule. Shouldn't the skull open a tunnel leading to area R9 rather than R12 as written? that makes so much more sense
