So, in my campaign, an evil mage deposited mimics disguised as bars of soap. After a couple of surprise encounters, my players searched the tavern and collected (carefully) the rest of the bars of soap. To make it sensible, I reasoned that the Mimics were wrapped in paper and the mage would simply place the soap on the side of the bathtub and cut the paper with a knife then leave. The Mimic's juices would then begin to flow outside of the paper.
The players used the clues to go hunting for the evil mage. Defeating a team of mages on an airship, the players bundled the bars of soap (using mage-hand, gloves and wrapping the soaps in spare clothing) into a chest. Then, using Plane Shift, they took the mimics into a circle of Hell and I rolled against a few things to determine where and exactly how they landed there. Unfortunately they rolled a mishap and landed in the middle of a Black Pudding. Succeeding strength saves, they managed to get out of the Black Pudding's attempts to grapple them and left the chests behind. Using another Plane Shift, they managed to escape back to their tavern, but the chest was left behind in the Black Pudding.
What my players would like to know is... since they escaped before they could watch the result,... who would win, the Mimics or the Black Pudding?
Would the Black Pudding eat the chest and eventually just digest the Mimics? Or would they break out of the chest and grapple the Black Pudding then eventually eat it?
Inside Chest: 26 Mimics disguised as bars of soap and wrapped in waxed paper 25 Juvenile Mimics disguised as bars of soap and wrapped in waxed paper
Outside Chest: Black Pudding
Location: somewhere in a labyrinthian Maladomini

The mimics win, and it's not really close, because number. A single mimic against a black pudding is pretty close to an even fight, because the mimic is immune to acid so the pudding barely does any damage. 26 mimics will take out the mimic in one turn while taking negligible damage.
I know that I'm not answering this question properly, but mimics are medium creatures. I don't think they can be disguised as bars of soap. Juvenile mimics, fine.

Panda-wat (I hate my username) is somehow convinced that he is objectively right about everything D&D related even though he obviously is not. Considering that, he'd probably make a great D&D youtuber.
