I'm not sure if this is the right place for this topic, but it's the best place I could find, sorry if it belongs somewhere else.
I created a Domain of Dread, and would like to share it. I am in a Dungeons and Dragon club as the DM, and would like some tips, as there are six people to DM for. (I usually DM for three.)
Without further adieu, Camarit, the Domain of Control and Science
Camarit is less of a world, and more of a city. The city gained its reputation when the king suddenly died. (He was poisoned by his heir Qaltha, (CAL-tha,) but the only people who know this are Qaltha and her most trusted advisors.) Qaltha rose to the throne, and tightened all security in Camarit. She also started distributing a serum that, when drunk, puts the consumer into a state in which they could only see the best in the world. The serum also calms their emotions, essentially making them charmed by Qaltha. People charmed in this way feel no hate toward Qaltha, and are unable to try to unseat her from the throne. The serum wears off two months after it is drunk. Citizens are required to get doses every month, insuring that the world is always in Qaltha's grasp. When Qaltha took over, she demolished the entire kingdom, and built small housing blocks for the citizens, each only big enough to fit two people. Qaltha also built the city's only facilities. (Two hospitals/serum dispensaries, a tavern, and a public bath house.) With all the extra materials, Qaltha built a splendid castle, and a wall around the city, insuring that no one can get out easily. When all this was done, the mists closed in around Camarit, sealing it off from the kingdom around it.
A Map of Camarit
About The Darklord
Qaltha was born in riches. She always had what she needed. However, she always felt royalty too conforming, and wanted to escape it. When she met Etolie, a common woman, she was smitten. However, when she told the king about her relationship, he got angry. He demanded to know where Etolie lived, and when Qaltha told him, thinking that he wanted to meet her, the King killed Etolie. In her grief, Qaltha started planning a way to take over the kingdom. However, she also went after a way to bring back Etolie, and has been unsuccessful so far. She poisoned the king, took over the city and enacted he strict laws. She offers freedom to anyone who can bring back Etolie. Qaltha always keeps the mists open, as the serum prevents anyone from thinking about leaving.
Adventure Hooks
- In the tavern, the characters encounter a man who hasn't taken the serum for a few months, and is trying to warn everyone of the normal world
- The characters are forced to find a way to resurrect Etolie in order to avoid taking the serum
- The characters are delivered to Camarit by the mists and are told to take the serum
