Hello, I am running a homebrew campaign where my group of 4 (Including 1 rogue NPC is with them for at least the close future) is about to encounter a hag. One of them is a brand new PC as the players old PC just left the group but is not dead. I have the Pale Night as my current big bad and they are trying to find 5 mineral balls across the world and ritually put the Pale Night back into the Abssyal plane. The current continent of Vraibus is the so called monster continent/"bad people" of D&D likes orcs, goblins, goliaths, drow, and others. It is a big continent and the bottom part of the continent is cut off from the top part of the continent via a big mountain pass. On the top side of the mountain pass lies a volcano and lava river with a big monsture/possible bbeg residing there. Is there anything I should put in? (For context this a lvl 10 party with about a year+ of sessions into the campaign.)
I'm not entirely certain what your question actually is. Are you trying to populate an entire continent with monsters? Thinking in such large scale is going to have you doing a lot of prep work and throwing 99% of it out cause you'll never get to it. Instead, focus more on encounters that the players will actually go through.
If your question is more "what monsters should I use in my encounters" however, then I would say that if the players are going through an area full of orcs, goblins, trolls, etc, then you should use thematically appropriate monsters for that region, and look up what you can find about using orcs, goblins, trolls, etc
