I use a screen i bought for now. Honestly, I'm sure there's DIY all over the internet for different ways to make them. Hopefully you find a cool option and come show it off!
Personally, I’d say go to your local hardware store and buy some thin square plywood boards and some simple hinges. You can link the boards together and add clips for papers on the inside face. I’m not sure you will be able to make it fold up well if you have limited craft ability but it should work in the interim while you wait to buy or learn how to do a better one.
i’ve been having the same problem with no screens having my custom rules on them and no money to buy my own screen, i’m thinking of just connecting two school binders with tape to make a hinge then slotting my outside artwork into the binder covers. has anyone tried this, and if so could i see the pictures?
This works fine and I used it for a long time before my players bought me something better. I used bulldog clips instead of paper clips because they are much sturdier. I did not use two binders, just the one. I would clip extra papers on the edge of the binder to give me a little more room to display paper and a little larger screen.
The bulldog clips tip is genuinely useful, much more stable than paper clips for holding extra reference sheets on the edge. I've done something similar with a single binder and it works surprisingly well for a budget setup.
Another option worth trying is using a trifold foam board from a dollar store — lightweight, stands on its own, and you can tape or slip printed sheets into it easily. Not as durable long term but practically free and you can customize the layout however you want. Works great until you can invest in something more permanent.
So, what I did was I duct taped two half inch binders together so that they unfold as four attached panels with three fold lines, If you aren't clear what I mean, I can upload a photo later.

Hi fellow adventurers! I have been playing D&D for 3 years, but I didn't have an account here yet. My D&D character is a level 11 Tiefling Warlock named Crimson My hobbies are D&D, Gaming (PC and Retro), Hobby Rocketry, Taekwondo, Drawing, Electronics (Modding and Hacking), Reading, and Bird Watching. I'm trying to post here more but I usually don't have time with school and that many hobbies. My old account is AurTheGreat Also, please visit my blog
I also have my laptop with me, but sometimes I need a physical book and I need to roll dice anyways because Google Dice Roller just isn't as fun. Also, having to switch between a bunch of tabs on my computer is annoying and the DM screen creates a psychological barrier and if I just have my laptop out, people will think it's okay for them to be on devices.

They actually make several DM screens that let you insert pages into them.
