What if in Tomb of Annihilation Ras Nsi didn't align with Acererak but instead decided to oppose the lich? What if Ras Nsi was an ally to the playing characters instead of an enemy? What are your thoughts as a DM? Thanks in advance.
It points out in the adventure that if you point out to Ras Nsi that he's dying from the death curse and it is all Acererak's fault, that he'll maybe try to work with the party to get his revenge on the lich.

It is entirely possible that, for appearances, Ras Nsi might start off cruel towards adventurers that are enslaved by the other Yuan-ti. After a day or so, he might demand a private audience with them and offer to help them escape if they promise to go down into the tomb and ruin Acererak's plans. Of course, the other Yuan-ti might find these negotiations a form of weakness, so it'd have to be very covert.

And there is also the problem of his #2 Fenthaza. She would like the PCs to go into the Tomb and get her pretty little trinket so she might play along and then betray them all in the end.

Good point. That's partly what made me think that it could start that way.
