The target rolls its constitution save (in the case of a goblin with con 10, that's a +0) against the druid's save DC. The spell will specify what happens if it fails, and may also state an effect on success (if it does not, success means no effect). For example, thunderwave says "On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn't pushed."
You also need to check for constitution save proficiencies.
A goblin has 10 (+0) constitution and has no save proficiencies so you roll a d20 for them add their con modifier (in this case 0) and if the score meets or surpasses the Druids spell save DC they succeed.
a green dragon wyrmling does have a number of save throw proficiencies including Con so while their Con modifier is +1, below that you will see they have a +3 so con saves, so if you were rolling a con save for them you would add 3 to the d20 roll.
Brilliant. That explains it very well and I had been doing it wrong (was just rolling to get under the Cons score to save). I couldnt remember the rule and didnt want to go reading rule books mid game.
New DM, got myself in another brain tangle over some basic rules.
If a Druid casts a spell that states 'Target Takes a Constitution Save, what is the process. Lets say its a goblin with Con 10.

Thanks again.
One last thing...my wifes Druid.
The Default DC to resist is-
8 + Spell Ability modifier (wis 18, so is that +3?) and then plus proficiency bonus(+2 at level 3)? So DC to resist her spells is 13?
I see on her char sheet her 'Spell attack Bonus' is +5. Where does that +5 derive from?
Thanks for all the great help.
18 is +4 ... so her spell dc is 14
+4 (for 18 attribute) + 2 (for prof) .. she should have a +6 spell attack roll.
Sorry, my mistake.
Her Wis is 16 not 18. So is it +3 from that and + 2 proficiency? So +5 Spell Attack Roll?
Thanks again.
