I'm trying to make a homebrew Archfey to plop into my dnd world. Is there any advice someone could give me? I have a few ideas. One is a patron that leans onto the Chaotic Good side, who would be a patron for one of my ocs I plant somewhere in the world. I plan for him to be a flirty individual, one that holds a lot of humanoid features, yet will show a lot of fey qualities perhaps he has features similar to a plant like a tree. he won't be part of any court.
The other archfey being will be Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil. They will have a cavern lair that hides behind a waterfall that flows into a pond. I don't have any sort of picture for them yet, but I intend for them to be hostile on sight and more of a challenging encounter for my players, so they obviously wouldn't hold as much power as the first, but I felt like since they were both fey beings and hold similar qualities that they fell under the same question/call for help on building them.
I would just really like advice on how to build them cause I am finding no online sources that give me any insight on how to.
Are you intending it to be a patron for a warlock in your game? I’d say you don’t need to stat it out at all. And certainly don’t put an alignment on it first, if ever. Just have an idea of its personality and decide what it wants from the warlock. That’s all you really need. Just have it do what it needs to do. Then after you figure out the personality, you can always hang an alignment on it, but it will never really come up in game, so if you don’t, that’s fine, too.
For the antagonist, don’t build it until the characters are about to encounter it. And when it does, the Domains of Delight supplement has ideas for how to make an archfey.
The patron I intend to use in the future, I doubt he will appear actually in the game I'm DMing, so mainly I wanted to make him - just his appearance and stuff like that - for my warlock that I hope to play in the future as a player. I just had no idea how to start on that thank you.
Thank you for the advice, I had no idea Domains of Delight existed!

Well for the good one, you could pull a Jester/Traveler play from critical role. The traveler was an Archfey that Vox Machina helped and made deals with in Campaign one. One of the deals later on in the campaign was that if he was to help them get a long rest in the fey realm without anytime or little time passing in the material plane then they would have to help him break the gates between the planes so he could travel to the material plane. In campaign two we found out later that Jester's patron for her cleric abilities was that Archfey now free on the material plane to cause a little bit of mischief everywhere through the people who worship him. That could be a lead in for you to use it for your warlock later on.
As far as the evil one, that one if you want players to fight it you can do one of two things I think the first one being he is weaker than his good counter part and the party can take him on (though it will be very hard in his own home lair). The second is that maybe he breaks free into the material plane and your party has to stop him, but because of the deities keeping the balance the archfey isn't has strong as he usually is (if maybe he was a CR 20, he might be more of a 17 now). Then when the players eventually defeat if instead of death it means he is sent back to the fey with the realization that mortals stopped him. This would make him furious and try to come up with new plans to either defeat or corrupt the party later on in the game. Or if you want to make an even greater baddy down the line in a campaign 2 of sorts, he thought process goes "I was defeated by these mortals! They are all scum! I will punish all of them" and come up with a plan to take over the material plane (he has nothing but time after being sent back).
Here's a list of Archfey used in the Forgotten Realms that you can reference. I'm more on the lazy side so I will usually just use something preexisting if I can find it. And since the Forgotten Realms has been around for decades there's a lot of creative work other people have done that I can use.
There really is a lot of options for fey because it's sort of a general catch all term for non angle/ non demonic magical beings and sometimes even that is too specific because they're also often lumped in with demons in stories. Dnd also throws in most fairy tale characters into fey.
So in this category you generally have
minor pagan deities
elemental and nature spirits e.g seasonal spirits like summer and winter
tricksters
local and house hold spirits
fairy tail and story characters - e.g talking animals ect...
If you want plant aesthetics you are probably looking at one of those elemental spirits or a minor diety associated with nature. So something like
A minor diety of the wild possibly things like a guardian of wild paths, protector of nature
The spirit of a natural feature like a forest, mountain, great tree or river
A spirit associated with a specific season or plant. Like the spirit that makes cherry blossoms bloom
If you want you can also steal from pf2e
They have a list of fey and wood creature stat blocks for free but you will have to adjust them or take them for inspiration https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=69 fey
i made the spirit of the west as an archfey. its a talking CN horse with a gun

I’d go with the chaotic good one, and maybe the patron could be a tree monster or a lady in the lake type thing…
DM: “Who’s your patron?”
Warlock: “Ummm”
DM: “Hurry Up”
Warlock: “yOu”
*All other players look at each other with utter fear*

I particularly like the pf2e spell lignify. which is just flesh to stone but they turn to wood.
