With the new Vecna book coming out I have a question, would it theoretically be possible for players with some kind of special permission from mystra to use epic magic to cast Karsus’s Avatar on Vecna and steal his divinity?
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Let’s take any rules of deity’s like AO and Mystra out of the equation, just if you think they could steal the divinity of Vecna and use it against them
What level is the spell? If its over 9, probably not as I think that was part of why the spell plague happened if I believe. Could it be used as High Magic and as a ritual instead?
It isn’t a if you can do this in game I’m just saying if it could theoretically work it would be a ritual as you said and let’s just say AO and mystra allow it to happen I probably could have done better saying that in the first post
Vecna could probably defend from it as the book of vile darkness allegedly contains spells to protect evil from even the power of gods. Even if it did work the problem with Karsus's avatar is that it's an imperfect spell. It's only temporary and grants power without actually fortifying the body of the person who takes it. Any one who cast the spell would only gain Vecna's powers temporarily and would likely suffer a curse as a result.
That said Vecna did himself devise a way to steal power from gods so you could use that but that would mean stealing secrets from the evil god of secrets.

Karsus' Avatar did not work on Mystra. I do not know if Vecna is as powerful as Mystra.

Varies he tends to fluctuate in power as he steals it and is later thwarted

It did work on Mystryl, Mystra's predecessor. Mystryl sacrificed herself causing the weave to collapse and stop Karsus, and then reincarnated almost instantly as Mystra.
Vecna is not nearly as powerful as Mystra. The God(dess) of Magic is one of the most powerful deities in Realmspace. I'd assume that goes for any other God of Magic in the muiltiverse as well.
Regardless, casting 12th level spells is now impossible by rule, and none of them even exist in this edition.

Probably not. Ao would not permit it.

Karsus Avatar is a 12 th level spell.

Vecna's power level is whatever the current plot calls for.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
