Questions about, Gracklstugh of which I am planning to drag my party to, looking at the map (Out of the Abyss).
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about an adventuring party wandering into the Duegar city. The party consists of a few humans, half elf, a wood elf and 3 (surface dwarves). Would the group even get past the gates? And if so, would they be attacked at first site by city dwelling derro or duegar? I am thinking more that the dwarves might have a hard time getting around without getting attacked. Thoughts?

As I recall, this is all actually covered in the book. Gracklstugh is a trading hub, there are caravans from all over including surfacers that may visit from time to time to purchase the armor and weapons from their forges (powered by Themberchaud the red dragon).
The gate guards are suspicious of strangers, they also like to collect slaves but there are a few things that can get them past the gates.
- there is a corrupt gate guard who wants a favor and can be convinced to let them in
- the party might arrive via the docks to the Dark Lake - this is especially likely if they picked up a guide from Slubludop and are using a raft or other water transportation
- the captain of the guard has a mission they want completed and a group of foreigners/outlanders/strangers is a preferred option for it because they are outside local politics
There are likely several others that I have forgotten.
The bottom line in my opinion is to thoroughly read the chapter since that might answer some of the questions that you seem to have.
P.S. I am currently running OOtA and am around chapter 13 in the Worm Writhings.
P.P.S. Duergar are greedy and lawful evil - their town is run by laws and if someone is admitted then they may not be "safe" but they are unlikely to be attacked. The book even covers the fact that the Drow that are chasing them won't attack inside the city.
Thanks for the response, David! yeah I read the chapter and also read Drizzt's Guide to the Underdark but I still had questions :-) Thank you for clarifying! And I did not know about the corrupt gate guard, thank you!
