my campaign (2 people 2 npc) at level 7 beat 4 yuan TI malisons and an enhanced yuan TI abomination (he had 1 chain lightning a day and more health) with 1 death (technically 2 but one came back and one of those was an npc and the other a wizard
I'm in a campaign where the dm put my rogue and a ranger up against 6 goblins, all riding wargs, and 2 bugbears. It required using the terrain, caltrops, and ball bearings to survive. In the end, some of the goblins retreated, but we killed the bugbears. And we were level 1 (though the ranger's eventual beast companion was with us as an npc.)
My first campaign I was dming my party of 6 characters was able to beat an ettin that could cast 3d level wizard and cleric spells the only way they survived was the druid trying to summon an owlbear by speaking with a bird but ending up summoning the avatar of silvanus.
I never thought anyone would see this thank you and continue ,probable update by me on Saturday or Sunday (next session) they will be fighting hob goblin general and his guard and advisors. if there is enough time they will capture the king and force peace though if they aren't wise they might end up fighting thousands of goblinoids
I once ran a game where a party of 5 (been long enough that I don't remember their level) fought an adult black dragon, killed it, and... forgot to look for his hoard.
Me: Well, you've successfully vanquished the dragon, is there anything you want to do now before your planned return to the city? Them: Nope, we're going to head back. Me: Really? There's nothing else you want to do before you go? Them: Nope, we're good. Me: So, you're heading out then? Them: Yep.
It was literally several sessions before one of the players suddenly exclaimed, "Hey, we never thought to check for that dragons treasure!"

Mindwitness, Death Kiss, and five Mind Flayers. No deaths thanks to NPC help. I regret the NPCs
