I have been DMing on a laptop and I am ready to take up less space on the table for me to be able to manage everything that we do during a session with a little more ease. Does anyone have any suggestions on what size and make/model of a tablet would work well? I am pretty much only using it for DnD based activities so I don't need anything high end. I was looking at the amazon ones for the price but I have read that the app doesn't work without a workaround. I am not overly tech savvy so I'd prefer now to handle that. Any suggestions would be helpful!
i'm not great with tech either unfortunately, and historically my solution for not enough space has been "bigger table" you can also put a stool or bedside table next to your chair which can help you keep track of things (when i use this i keep my info there, also works with laptop so could be good). i have seen recommendations for the Surface Pro 3 but i don't know how trustworthy they are or if its what ur looking for. hope this helps!
It's a scrappy enough device and can handle most of what is thrown at it, though to be honest my Framework laptop is not all that much bigger and if I need a digital resource it's smaller and lighter than one of the sourcebooks...so I just use that.
I tried the Amazon Fire and never got the work around to work very well so ended up sending it back. I’ve now got an iPad I bought on Amazon reconditioned that does the job well and cost about half the normal price
I use a Chromebook and a Chromecast stick to send my “maps” to our TV to free up the table. However I find my kids are constantly playing with the dice instead of actually paying attention so we are considering tablets to remove the dice from the table and I’m interested to find out what the cheapest tablet that will run the app and the dice rolling we primarily just need the character sheets and the references for spells.
There’s an android version of the app so I think you’re probably good with any of the budget tablets you can buy on Amazon for around £70. Best bet is probably to take advantage of their returns policy, buy the cheapest tablet you can get and if it doesn’t run well send it back and try the next cheapest until you’ve found one that does the job
We were looking at using AboveVTT which integrates really well with D&D Beyond, but the AboveVTT Chrome Extension doesn't work with iPads and most tablets from what I can see... I think it will work with the Microsoft Surface Pro.
My iPad works great with D&D Beyond on its own though.

When I have to use a tablet I use an old Lenovo Duet - it comes with a magnetic detachable keyboard and a kickstand. This is the latest version I'm aware of for the tablet I have which is maybe four years old now. https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/lenovo-chromebook-duet-11-2024-review/
