You know how if you put a bag of holding in another bag of holding, you get sucked into the astral plane with no chance of avoiding it? Well, imagine a trap where a bag of holding sits in another bag of holding, but in an antimagic field so they don't implode. When someone gets too close, a trigger (tripwire, pressure plate, etc.) will shut down the field, and the bags will remember to open a portal because a bag in a bag is a big no-no.

You can't access the contents of a bag of holding while it's in an antimagic field, and thus you can't set up this trap to start with.
If the maker of the trap has access to multiple bags of holding and the ability to create anti-magic fields, there are far better ways to make a trap (including ones that send the victim to another plane).

Have played every version of the game since Basic (Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.

True, but having seen more than a few Looney Toons, "better ways" and "ways we're gonna try it" are often very different beasts.
Cool thought on your end. The caps are not necessary on the title. But the anti magic field has a 10ft radius affecting everything in that area. Casting that would turn the bags into normal bags and spill out the contents, which are also turned into mundane items. It's also casted on the character's self and not an object outside of the character's 10ft radius.
Could be a fun homebrew rule but doesn't work RAW. So nothing game breaking here.
OK, daft idea but here me out.....The Beholder Angler fish.....take a beholder, switch one of its eye rays to Greater Invisibility and have it lay in wait with its anti magic cone covering the area of the "trap", this could be the aforementioned bag of holding or a big pile of treasure covering a spell such as Glyph of Warding etc. Party enter the area, see the big pile of treasure move toward it and then Beholder closes its anti magic eye and which causes the magic of the trap to activate, the beholder blasts the party with some eye rays before moving and reusing its anti magic ray as needed.

Doesn't an empty bag of holding act like a regular bag while in an an antimagic field?

In any case, it isn't game breaking. If they have multiple means of doing it, does it matter how they do it?
