For my short one-shot-ish adventure, the players were searching for a murderer in a small, tranquil village. Dun dun dun...
Anyway, as soon as they arrived in the village, they went to the local tavern. Only one person there, a beloved fisherman in the town. Of course, the barbarian decides to just casually put down his axe on the man's neck.
They went to jail - they would be executed the next morning.
As their execution's about to start, the crowd roaring and cheering for their deaths...of course, a man turns up, shouting he's found something in the fisherman's house - a diary with some suspiciously gruesome notes?
Of course...the man they killed accidentally at a tavern was the one that eventually was the murderer.
:/
