I'm considering having my table's adventures merge into the Tyranny of Dragons storyline, but I'm facing 2 small hurdles. 1- They're currently crossing the Alamber Sea coming from Tymanther, and heading for Thay 🙂 So, nowhere near the Sword Coast default location. 2- They're currently 5th level. 4 Dragonborn and 1 Drow.
I'm wondering if I could transplant the storyline to the Thay and general Inner Sea region. Could Chapter 6 Castle Naerytar be a good jumping on point? Perhaps using the Umber Marshes as the Mere of Dead Men and adapting from there?
If I did that, what would be the KEY information that a party would want/need to know by that Chapter so that they could carry the plot forward w/out it feeling too forced?
I jumped into Tyranny of Dragons around the Marshes, they summarized it as just there's a cult collecting gold and treasure and the party is just finding out where they are taking it.
