So basically me and a few friends wanted to play DnD but none of us played before. I'm supposed to be the DM but I don't really know what to know, to do or wich rules to follow. Has someone of you tools for me or explanations? Also can someone explain the character sheet to me? I would be in your debt if you could do that for me.
Ginni Di has a playlist of videos intended for a new player, that might help you and everyone. You don't need to watch all of them, maybe just the most key ones.
Also worth just looking at WotC resources, such as https://www.dndbeyond.com/how-to-play-dnd (disclaimer: have not read them personally, cannot state how good they are).
I'd say start with 2014 rather than 2024. Just use the Basic Rules to save money at first, because the books are expensive.
Disagree on the first. Starting with 2014 isn't any easier than starting with 2024 and risks trapping you in the land of unsupported products. On the second, most new player resources don't assume anything beyond basic rules.
If you can, try to experience the game as a player first or at the very least watch a lot of actual plays. If you go for the latter, always remember that there is no way your group will be playing like that from the get go.
Also, in addition to the above, read the whole Playing the Game section in the SRD.
