I would like to run a campaign set in the Spelljammer universe. I already have a plot outline: Celestian has been kidnapped by someone, who has begun manipulating his followers to free Tharizdun with their help. That's the general idea.
However, I am having trouble deciding on the identity of the kidnapper. I considered several characters: Shar, Cyric, Ghaunadaur and Larloch. But with each of them, I hesitated, thinking they weren't quite right — either they lacked motivation, lacked the opportunity to do such a thing, or would simply ruin the atmosphere.
That's why I'm asking for advice: who would you think would be best for such a story?
The problem is that almost any entity powerful enough to imprison Celestian has no real reason to free Tharizdun (since his goal is to destroy all that is, presumably including the summoner), so you need a summoner who's either insane or doesn't actually intend to free Tharizdun (they just think the attempt will have exploitable side effects).
You could use construct that is just a fragment of Tharizdun, similar to the Voidharrow.

Acererak. Because as soon Tharizdun is free he will absorb its power in order to achieve godhood.
