The Monk's Deflect ability lets them defray some of the damage done to them when attacked, and based on the wording of the ability I'm not sure if it's RAI that an attack that includes both physical damage (say, slashing) and magic damage (say, cold or psychic or whatever) is fully defrayed, or if it's just the physical damage part.
Assuming we're talking about the 2024 version, it says:
When an attack roll hits you and its damage includes Bludgeoning, Piercing, or Slashing damage, you can take a Reaction to reduce the attack’s total damage against you.
The key word there is total. That means the damage reduction applies to all the damage dealt by the attack, not just the bludgeoning/piercing/slashing damage.
The 2014 version uses the phrase "the damage you take from the attack", which is a little less clear, but I think means essentially the same thing.

Anyone have clarity on this?
