I’m trying to bring order to the mountain of scattered notes I’ve accumulated over the years for various D&D campaign ideas. Most of these concepts will probably never see play, but I’d still like a solid framework to flesh out the ones I do intend to run.
Do any of you use a particular outline or template to organize:
I’ve checked out Mike Shae’s Eight Steps of the Lazy DM, which works well for preparing individual sessions, but it’s a bit too granular when I’m trying to plan an entire campaign. I’m looking for a framework that captures the big‑picture arc while still leaving space to flesh out the finer details later. It’s possible that Shae has a broader guide somewhere in his library that I haven’t discovered yet.
I’d love to hear about the systems or documents you rely on—whether you’ve built your own spreadsheet, a wiki page, a printable sheet, or something else entirely.
For world building type ideas, have a binder that I keep all that info for my world in and whenever I feel like adding to the world I just add some pages. f you are looking for digital, i would suggest Kanka. It's a little confusing to start but i think it's pretty reliable and well done.
I would suggest a similar approach for your villains and story arcs. Find a reliable place to store the ideas that you are going to use so you can easily access them when you need them. i don't have a particular outline for those things, I just write notes and store them in my copy of Flee, Mortals! (excellent monster book by the way, if you want more than WoTC content). Just keep them in one place is what I'd suggest.

Thanks in advance for sharing your methods!
