About to start a new campaign and my players have decided they want to try Spelljammer. I'm all for this and I really like the setting but the Light of Xaryxis campaign released for 5e is both very short and a little underwhelming. Has anyone got any suggestions for campaigns or one shots from previous editions or third party publishers that might give me better ideas?
I’m reading through that at the moment, it’s the Light of Xaryxis I mentioned that was part of that pack and as I said it’s not sparking my creative juices. I’ve got a couple of months while we take a break for summer so hopefully I can at least rip it apart for pieces
I've got no suggestions, but a significant caveat: once the players have a ship, every campaign is a sandbox. Unless they have a goal they've bought in on and a deadline (such as in light of xylophone), you're going to have to be prepared to improvise.
I thought that might be the case, I'm ok with that but also my players (or at least this group) are usually pretty good at staying on plot so long as I give them a plot so hopefully it won't come up too often
Yeah, I tried running Xaryxis and my players just lost interest. It wasn't particularly good, but the Astral Elves are a fleshed-out and fairly prevalent part of Spelljammer, so I would still recommend working them in somehow.
Perhaps a war between the Gith, specifically Githyanki, and the Astral Elves. Perhaps, like in Xaryxis, the elves extinguished the life on some small planet, but it was a major Githyanki hub, and so they are fighting back against the elves for revenge.

He doesn't have much besides the skin on his bones. Me: I'll take the skin on his bones, then.
"You see a gigantic, monstrous praying mantis burst from out of the ground. It sprays a stream of acid from it's mouth at one soldier, dissolving him instantly, then it turns and chomps another soldier in half with it's- "

That could work, I’ll have to get thinking because it’s starting to look like for a setting people seem to have so much fondness for theres not much in the way of actual adventures for it
