So I'm looking to run a full campaign (successfully) for the first time. My last attempt fell apart from scheduling and biting off a bigger campaign than I could chew. My typical group has played Lost Mine of Phandelver, Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, and is currently doing Dragon of Icespire Peak (all run by different DMs).
Are there any other good starter campaigns for new DMs besides the ones I've listed? I think Frozen Sick might be one (I might be wrong), but I'm not really familiar with the Wildemount setting. I thought about maybe one of the anthology books like Candlekeep Mysteries, Tales from the Yawning Portal, Ghosts of Saltmarsh, Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, or something similar.
I had my eye on another campaign, but it's way bigger than anything I could tackle with my current DM skill level. I'm thinking I might be able to build up to it eventually once I get used to DMing stuff larger than a one off. Any recommendations or suggestions?
Sounds like your group already ticked off all the usual suspects for a beginner campaign so those are out the question. The anthologies are good, although can vary a lot in quality from one chapter to another, but the problem is they’re a series of discreet adventures that aren’t always easy to link together as a long campaign.
My second campaign I ran was Waterdeep Dragon Heist and I found that pretty easy to do. All in one city so limited amounts of lore to learn, a choice of villain so you can choose the one you find most engaging, and been around long enough theres plenty of YouTube videos on best way to run it.
What was the campaign you had your eye on? Unless it was something like Tomb of Annihilation that has a million moving parts it could be something you’re over estimating the difficulty of and we can help guide you through
