I've been running a long-ranging campaign based on the 5e Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign. I've sprinkled in some of my own homebrewed adventures, and the crew is over-leveled (lvl 12) for everything at this point, so I've been updating the last few official adventures to fit their level and (my admittedly big mistake of rewarding way too many magic items) load out.
Right now, they're off the coast and sailing up the Sheldomar River to the capital of Keoland, Niole Dra, to participate in a succession conflict that is happening at a gathering Conclave of Lords. They're marginally backing Anders Solmor from Saltmarsh in his plays during what I'm planning to be a political but also assassin-ridden arc. He's a minor rural lord, so I'm not angling him as an actual successor but as childhood friends with the missing crown-prince and princess of the realm. I'm thinking about adding heist elements from Blades in the Darkand looking for other good examples of political intrigue modules or adventures that have been published over the years. It doesn't have to be Fifth Edition or even D&D.
Does anyone have any fun suggestions to take some inspiration from?
Edit: for some reason, I am stuck in italics after adding it to "Blades in the Dark" and cannot remove it now.
My players just defeated the juvenile kraken. I located the temple on a major island in thr Sea Princes domain., which is at war with keoland. They are trying to remain undercover, a chunk of the city is on fire, and theyre stranded.
The kingdom to the north, Ekbir, has been launching probing attacks against keoland all campaign long, im thinking of having some of their ships sail into the bay of the island theyre on. Have ekbir and the sea princes gang up on keoland. Give them some stuff to fight.
There has also been a thread throughout thr campaign of portents of doom, something big and terrible, and i think i will eventually end the campaign with a bunch of kaiju, tarrasque, etc. I mean, its a coastal city, theyre begging for godzilla to show up....

No idea what this has to do with the question other than being the same module...
I'm unfamiliar with Candlekeep Mysteries but they're supposed to be, well, mysteries, so that might have something for you, though I can't guarantee it. Keys from the Golden Vault is another adventure anthology built around heists.

I’ll take a look to see if there’s any good guidance or fun mechanics for the kind of intrigue I’m looking for. Thanks for the suggestion!
