I’m having trouble deciding what creatures I should use for a hidden tomb atop a snowy mountain.
The tomb is sealed (at least from the front), but I’m thinking maybe yetis. But does anyone else have an idea for a creature that would reside in an abandoned cave in a bitter cold mountain range?
What level players? That might be a great opportunity to bring out a Yeti.
I’m thinking yeti, but there’s 6-7 of them, and they’ll be level 7 or 8 by then. If I do a yeti, I might modify an abominable yeti and give him some legendary properties.
One thing I thought of was the players could encounter it while trekking up the mountains, then manage to scare it off and encounter it in its lair (the long abandoned tomb).
Ah, the players are much higher level than I expected. I think you might want to consider this tomb being an old Frost Giant tomb. Or if you're feeling devious, pick up Volo's Guide to Monsters, keep the dead Frost Giant inside and have it guarded by a Frost Giant Everlasting One. Then if that's not enough for the party, you still have the dead giant inside the tomb who may or may not be afflicted by something that causes her to rise undead and face the party as well. And if you need a themed prize for the adventure, you could say the giant's guilt led him to build this tomb for his lady who fell after a quarrel before they could reconcile and he laid her to rest along with his magical frost greataxe blessed by Vaprak the Destroyer. I just happen to have homebrewed such an axe called "Lover's Quarrel" some time ago for use in one of my own campaigns. Who doesn't love a tragic romance?
Or you could say the players heard a rumor of this weapon in a tomb high in the mountains and that's what led them there to look for it. But when they get there, the tomb is not empty!

"Not all those who wander are lost"
How’s this?

That is certainly a large yeti! Give him some regular yeti minions to keep the party from focusing all their firepower on frosty King Kong.

And do you think the CR is accurate?
