I have my PCs in the demonweb pits recovering a spelljammer that got trapped there (the demonweb pits have had a lot of portals since they were introduced in Q1, and it's a perfect use for an asteroid spider). That part is no problem, but I'm trying to come up with a good puzzle for getting out -- specifically, they shouldn't just be able to free the ship and fly out the same way they entered.
My partial idea is that there's a network of portals (which, if mapped, will of course be in a spiderweb pattern) that you have to transit to exit, and exactly where you exit depends on the path you take, but so far I haven't come up with a way to make it interesting. Any suggestions?
If you add a time pressure element things will definitely get more interesting. Demons notice them and come in increasing numbers. The webs begin to constrict around them and if they don't get out, they'll be crushed. That kind of thing.
They'll also need some way of figuring out how to use the portals as well. Just guessing over and over until they find a pattern will get boring basically right away. Maybe they have to capture a demon and get the information out of them, or obtain a magical map that slowly devours their soul. The information needs to have a price.

The routing of a locked portal could be unlocked after the right sequence of 9x9 Barazhad symbols is entered in an Infernal scripted grid.
(As inspiration, select a sudoku of appropriate difficulty and replace numbers with Barazhad script following the same rules as the game. Ex Barazhad Font | dafont.com or any other weird symbols you want. I did something something similar back then with a dwarven secret passage panel keypad with Dethek runes and my players really enjoyed doing this sort of puzzle with props i created!)
