Call from the Deep (and other 3rd party adventures)

Hi there!

So I've recently purchased Call from the Deep, and I find it a brilliant adventure module. I'm thinking about mixing it with certain adventures from Ghosts of Saltmarsh.

Would you recommend me to do that or should I just run the module as it is?

Besides, could you recommend me some of the best third party adventures? I've read very good reviews about Odyssey of the Dragonlords, for instance.

One of my personal favourites, run it twice now, is Dungeons of Drakkenheim. It's an open sandbox adventure in a city that was hit by a magical meteorite that killed or mutated everyone and now you have to negotiate these mutants as well as 5 factions fighting to reclaim the city.

On the whole though with third party stuff it's easiest to figure out what you like and find a publisher that does that. For instance I like horror so I gravitate towards Ghostfire Gaming, they're the publishers of Drakkenheim as well as a horror setting called Grim Hollow (both available on DDB) as well as the company just announced to be writing an official Ravenloft campaign. Another good stop if you want Folk Horror is Crooked Moon. If you like more traditional fantasy then try Kobold Press, again a very big player in 3rd party publishing who are writing an official campaign for WotC set in the Forgotten Realm. If you grew up reading the Redwall novels and want an adventure with everyone playing animals then Humblewood by Hit Point Press might be more your speed.

The other option is Google the most successful Kickstarters or the previous Ennie Award winners and see what has been released

 Yes Drakkenheim is the Dungeon Dudes. It won an Ennie Award for the campaign and just last week their Monster Manual won another one so they're doing pretty well

Honestly, Kobold Press is my usual go-to here. They have a collection of one-shot collections which are all very high quality. Their epic adventure collection is 13 adventures for character 1-7, and their second is another 5 adventures. Primarily build for Tales of the Valiant they work pretty much without alteration for both 5e and 5.5e.

A new discovery for me though is Midnight Tower who publish some amazingly good adventures, but appear to do mystery particularly well. They even have their own campaign setting which appears very well fleshed out.

I love Trouble at Mossbeard Mill, and Caverns of the Spore Lord from this one. Sunken Pyramid and Scroll Vault of Malzegar get honorable mentions.

 Their new Kickstarter keeps crossing my Instagram feed but I’d not heard of them before. Might have to check them out because I love a good mystery
