I am making a maze based campaign think maze runner. I the maze there will be organisations I can't come up with any except one: an nomad type group. Does anyone have any ideas of organisations?
Intro to campaign:
You were selected for the eternal maze a decade old challenge that none have been able to complete… You have been selected as your city's champions.
You wake up with walls as tall as 3 giants stretching high above you, a single route lies ahead of you.
Halloween fan, Lego master, Dm, bookworm, Ravenclaw and chef. Under 18 year old, currently posting in BST (UK time). Autistic, dyslexic as a warning I might ask you some personal questions so please don’t hate me Master of the clouds, ruler of the sky’s and controller of the Night Death shall come to us all, we just chose when
If the idea is for groups of people who just sort of live in the maze, I’d imagine there would be groups of traders, moving between encampments. They might also be couriers, delivering mail and other correspondence, but that could be a separate group.
Cultists (there’s always cultists) who worship the maze as their god.
Concept wise, what happens when they hit level 5, and start taking the fly spell and just zip up over the maze? Not to mention the numerous species with an inherent fly speed, or will you ban them?
Id also suggest it having been going for much longer than 10 years. Let it be 50 or 100. Generations of people were born in the maze and don’t know any life outside of it.

In response to the fly spell there is a culture of sentiment vines at the top of the maze that attach to the flying creature and feed it to the beasts. And I think that the players are joining in the 100th year

It might help to think about why they move around. Are they cursed and shunned? Are they afraid of the monsters and constantly move to avoid them, driven on by their anxiety? Are they secretly monsters who kidnap the children in the places they travel to? Thinking about what you want them to achieve and then building around that idea will help as well. Do they connect the locations in the maze? Do they act as warriors and repel the monsters?
Also, what relevance do they have to the characters? Do they give information to them to help them navigate the maze? Do they hunt and attempt to devour them? They shouldn't just be there. They should have a purpose in your game.

I see, just in the post, you said a decade-old challenge, it made me think 10.
Id try and come up with something a little more substantial than sentient vines. Seems like a misty step could probably bypass them, and certainly a dimension door. Maybe some kind of anti magic barrier at the top. It’s certainly the kind of thing the creators of the maze would have anticipated; they live in a world where people can do those sorts of things.

I was thinking of maze runner a bit, as well as the scenes from honour among thieves it's also the flying races

Just a tip I use for writing in general, but leave open-ended questions. Don’t try to think of all of it at one. If they move because they’re running from something, who are they running from? But instead of answering that now, put it to the side, and use it to connect to something else later. Hope this helps!
Okay, organizations... I'd say that there's certainly gonna be a group like in Divergent (awful book, really) of fighters, barbarians, paladins, etc. since like-minded people tend to gather together like that. They might have a more intelligent person running the camp as well, or it might just be a mix of the fighting classes in general, so that gets stretched to include ranger. There might be a peace group, they might be a group of criminals who were forced in as punishment, stuff like that. Keep in mind that in positions like this, someone will always try to take power in a group of chaos.

1) The moles -> they believe the only way to escape the maze is to dig under it, they have a network of tunnels under the maze but keep running into giant impenetrable stones or hazards like pools of lava, or underground monsters that have so far prevented them from escaping.
2) The collective -> a group of monk-ish philosophers who were once revolutionaries and thrown into the maze as punishment, however, they found freedom in the maze and learned to live off what the maze provides and now have a hippie-ish commune set up in the maze, complete with small farms and tamed monsters.
3) The hunters -> competitive zealots they embrace the "challenge" nature of the maze and spend their time searching the maze for the biggest and baddest monsters they think they can take down and then show off as trophies to prove their power.
4) The designers -> a group of mages who were tasked with building the maze only to be left behind after it was finished. They study the maze and the creatures within it, and are constantly tinkering modifying the monsters & plants to improve the maze to achieve the original vision (however what that vision was has been half-forgotten).
5) The survivors -> a group of weak refugees or other victims thrown into the maze as a punishment or form of execution who never the less manage to survive. They are experts in stealth & resourcefulness, and spend most of their time hiding from the monsters or engineering ways to avoid hazards.
6) The mutants -> the results of failed experiments by the designers, these semi-sentient / semi-monstrous beings just want to find a cure to their conditions.
I'm just going to give a list of suggestion of the kind groups I think I could be in here. Hopefully it'll give some inspiration.
Plunderers - effectively bandits within the maze. Some act like other explorers. Others don't even bother to hide their true nature.
Helpers - some kind of state organised groups who are found at the lower levels mainly, offering limited support to explorers - a safe place of rest, cheap minor potions for sale, etc.
Businesses - on some of the higher levels, I imagine you can find some opportunistic people selling more expensive safe places & products.
Explorer Alliances - not sure how long they spend in this place or how many times they go in there, but I imagine like-minded individuals would congregate together into 'guilds' effectively.
Crazed Cultists - they worship the maze and hunt those who dare defile with their selfish presence concerned only with material gain, not comprehending the true beauty of the maze.
Hope this helps.
