In my last session of Welcome to the Hellfire Club that I am running, there was an event that triggered information and a sensation that one one player experienced when they touched an object.
I asked the rest of the players to leave the room for 1 minute, which they did excitedly, knowing that something was happening to that player's character that stayed. I explained the information I needed to explain, and called the players back in.
Many of us have watched a decent amount of Critical Roll, and in that Live Play, they refer to these situations as 'Whispers', as the DM is the one that gets up and, cupping his hand around the person's ear, relays the info in a whisper to the player, so the other players don't receive the info.
This got a few of us thinking... What is this action (relaying of specific information to one player) actually called?
Is there a term other than 'Whispers' that is used commonly? What did people call it before Critical Roll started streaming?
Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.
Had some similar experiences. Whispers are one name for it, though off the top of my head I think that "Arcane Secrets" sounds more DnD-ish to me.

I used to do it in my group, where the player and I would go to another room, but we never called it anything. Nowadays, I’m much more likely to send the player a DM on discord. Though I do still like to telegraph that I’m doing it, because I think it’s fun for the group to know that someone knows a secret.

There's no official term. Some call it a whisper, others secret info

"When are we gonna take a snack break?"
I've had one online group refer to these as "DM DMs" because they were done over Discord direct message.
It was not the most serious of D&D groups.
