I would suggest reading this thread, then starting your own if there's nothing helpful here. You'll be able to get further in depth and not hijack someone else's thread. Im sure many of us will be able to help or at least point you in a direction.
Hi Leto, there has been some good general advice about issues you might have on this thread, do you have any specifics? Do you mean you are the DM running the game or you are the player who is your parties 'face man' pointing the direction the team goes in?
The temperament of your group is too important to ignore. Some might really thrive with some helpful advice or brainstorming, others might take that same attempt to help as unwanted criticism. Dont push, it wont work well :).
Does your group have people prepared to assist allies attacks rather than concentrating on what they can do solo - and if they do, should they? (game/brainstorm up the best options by playing out a few scenarios with them to see how it stacks up if you can - a haste spell might be great for a solo target boss fight but against a bunch of gaurdian mobs an 8d6 fireball is often better) If the players arrive before the DM and are waiting around, sometimes just proposing a hypothetical encounter can be a good way of building into a strategy later.
Rounds of combat that drag will inevitably lead to people losing attention on whats happening, becoming involved in their own thoughts, Iphones or conversation. When your lucky your group will be interested in combat and it will speed through quick enough for you to retain the highest rate of interest and in doing so they will have had time to plan out their actions because they will have seen everything unfolding.
Give us some details that concern you and we can go from there :)
