I am DMing a playthrough of Curse of Strahd for my friends. Although this isn't my first time as a DM, I am still new to the lore and universe of D&D. I have been reading through and absorbing all of the details covered in the book itself, but have found little things I was missing outside of adventure guide.
For example, unless I missed while reading, I was unaware that Strahd's domain is located in a pocket of the Shadowfell. This is a small detail outlined in the DMG in a section on the Shadowfell.
My question is for those who have played or DM'd a Curse of Strahd campaign, what are some of the most important or interesting details you discovered that wasn't actually covered in the "Curse of Strahd" adventure guide? Certain general assumptions or knowledge of Strahd or the monsters that inhabit his domian may be things that I missed if it isn't touched on explicitly in the guide (especially if it is only touched on lightly in the other books).
